SurfaceThread · How it works

Surface what people know. Thread it together.

SurfaceThread brings up the knowledge that lives within what people say: what they mean, what lies beneath, what goes unsaid. Then it threads that knowledge together by meaning, across languages and time, always with the person it came from.

How it works, as a journey: from people to knowledge that travels

An engine of our own, built for people’s knowledge, checked every day, and answerable to the communities who hold it.

Step inside the engine

How it works

Many parts. One body of knowledge.

Eight layers, each one there to protect the people whose knowledge it holds. Keep scrolling to watch them come together.

  1. 01BringWhat people carry, in whatever form it lives: recordings, writing, whole conversations, any language.
  2. 02SurfaceWhat lies beneath each voice: what it means, the question under it, what goes unsaid.
  3. 03ThreadVoices joined by meaning across languages and time, and where people part ways.
  4. 04Hand backPeople check it against their own words and decide what travels. Their word stands.
01Your space, your keyEach body of knowledge sealed in its own space. Private by default; delete means delete.
  1. 01 Your space, your key Each body of knowledge sealed in its own space. Private by default; delete means delete.
  2. 02 Intake Recordings, video, writing, sheets, photos, whole conversations, each voice kept apart.
  3. 03 Its own engine Run in our own environment, built for this work, checked every day. Never sold or used to train others’ models.
  4. 04 Surfacing Brings up what each voice knows, the question beneath it, and what goes unsaid.
  5. 05 Resonance Connects voices by meaning, and shows where people meet and where they differ.
  6. 06 Trace Every quote tied to the person who said it, timed to the word, ready to be heard again.
  7. 07 Tools Console, Mirror, Portal, briefs; full exports.
  8. 08 Human review People check what surfaces against the words and talk it through. The last word is theirs.

What it powers

One engine. Many spaces.

Every space has its own front door, in its own words. Behind each one is the same engine, and the same care: every line traced to the person who said it.

Not analytics

Not a dashboard of people. A way for knowledge to meet.

Most tools turn what people say into numbers about them. SurfaceThread is built around the people behind the words: it keeps their stories and experiences intact, brings up what they know, and connects it to the knowledge it belongs with. It helps that knowledge travel; it never speaks for them.

The details

Under the hood, in plain terms.

01Its own engine
Run in its own environment, beside where the knowledge is kept, and built for this work: it brings up what people mean, not keywords. Checked every day against answers people labeled by hand. In blind tests, what it surfaced was preferred over a leading commercial AI’s six times out of seven. Never handed to an AI company, never sold, never used to train anyone else’s models.
02Isolation
Each body of knowledge in its own space, under its own key. Private by default; sharing is explicit and reversible, and its holders choose what any partner can see.
03Sharing
Public isn’t all or nothing: share a picture, a map or a profile without individual voices. A withdrawn voice leaves every picture and count at once. Open to people, closed to bulk scrapers and AI crawlers.
04Inputs
Recordings and video of any length, documents, spreadsheets, photos and whole conversations. Each speaker becomes their own voice, every word kept, in their own language; translations are marked. Speech always comes in, and songs come in as songs.
05Connection
By meaning, not keywords: who else is saying this, even in other words, other languages, other times. Threads run across collections and decades, and show where people part ways as well as where they meet.
06Exchange
Organizations and communities that choose to form a circle can hold their knowledge up to each other: who meets whom, why, and what each brings that the other doesn’t hold yet. Both names always travel, with a way back to the source.
07Traceability
Word-level timestamps. Every quote verbatim, checked against the transcript, one tap from the recording, and tied to its speaker, in their own description first.
08How sure
Everything the engine surfaces carries how sure it is. Thin or unclear voices are flagged for a person to look at, never shown with false confidence.
09Lenses
A community writes, in its own words, what it wants brought up, tries the lens on a few voices with nothing saved, then turns it on. Every finding traces to the person behind it, and a lens can be shared with other communities, credited.
10Captions
Captions in the language spoken, transcribed from each recording and timed to it: in the Mirror and the immersive worlds, in the browser, full screen, and in a headset.
11Public or private
Everything is private unless its holders choose otherwise. A community can go public and go private again; going private closes everything going public opened.
12Export and deletion
Full export at any time. Deletion is permanent. Hidden file data, like where a photo was taken, is kept or removed at the contributor’s choice.

Use SurfaceThread

Bring what your community knows. See it whole. Act on it.

Tell us what it holds: a collection of recordings, a consultation, a campaign question, a body of interviews. We’ll show you how it could work with what you hold, or set up a demonstration.

  1. A conversationA person sees every note and talks with you before anything is set up.
  2. Your own space, your own keyOne accountable person holds the key to what you bring.
  3. See it wholeSee its knowledge surface privately, in people’s own words.
  4. Decide what travelsShare some, all or none. It stays your choice.
